Marilyn Patton

After retirement from a career in Clinical and Administrative Social Work in the United States, I married and moved to beautiful Tasmania in 2013. I am enjoying a second chapter, following my dream of having time to paint. Art creation and appreciation has always been, and continues to be, a mainstay in my life.
I have devoted serious study of painting through Leoni Duff at the Brisbane Street Art School, and other tutors including Lee Machalac, Martinho Correia, Diane Rappisi, Colley Whisson and Ross Patterson, Lyn Deiffenbach, Graeme Whittle, and David Leffel at Bright Light Fine Art.
Painting Landscapes, Still Life, Portraits, and Figurative paintings bring me enjoyment. I have received several “Highly Commended” awards in the Oil Painting category of the ARTEX Rotary exhibition in Ulverstone: Relay, 2014 and Trois Poires, 2018. Ticket to the Blue Planet, 2017 won the TASART Wellers Inn Oil Painting Award, and Nothing You Have Could Lure Me Away from my Mt. Owen, 2019 was a finalist in the inaugural Women’s Art Prize Tasmania and is held in the collection of the West Coast Council of Tasmania.
My current explorations include creating Figurative paintings that speak to human dilemmas faced in our families and communities, Still Life paintings that promote peace and beauty, Tasmanian Landscapes where light has found a home, and Portraits that commemorate people’s lives.
