“This body of work makes an embellished reference to westernised ideals of exotic culture. Through the medium of photography I have created my own interpretation on the theme of multi-cultural identity.

“My knowledge and understanding of these places is limited to fractured portrayals and it is these representations that my work encompasses. Through our own pop cultural filtering, our perceptions of international tradition and custom have shifted. Cultural characteristics mish mash together to create hybrids of old and new.

“The imagery is self-aware of its stereotype, and purposely embellishes upon these ideals. I have employed the use of certain strategies to highlight this; excessiveness, extravagance and bold use of supporting and suggestive symbols. I strive to evoke a sense of recognition within the viewer by presenting them with a familiar interpretation of these cultural rituals and stereotypes.”
